• Embroidery and Crazy Quilting Workshop

• We are not certain when our next workshop will be -- stay tuned for information on possible 2004 dates.
  
  We have been working on creating an extra space here at "The Avalon" so that we could hold this and other workshops in comfort. The separate workshop house remains somewhat unfinished and the accommodations still a bit "rustic" but it is a nice space. The house is only a couple hundred feet away from our house and has a functional kitchen, sleeping space and bathtub w/outdoor shower. We have one flush toilet and two outhouses.

• BASICS OF CRAZY QUILT PATCHWORK
  
  • balance of fabrics and color
  • keeping your work flat
  • using applique

• ALL ABOUT THREAD: cotton, rayon, silk
  
  
• EMBROIDERY STITCHES! the favorites: back stitch, stem stitch, herringbone, french knots, cretan, couching, chain sitch, lazy daisy and more....
  
  
• EFFECTIVE FILL-IN STITCHES and easy motifs for embroidery
  
  
• COMBINING STITCHES for beautiful complex borders
  
  
• LETTERING TECHNIQUES IN SEWING
  
  
• SILK RIBBON EMBROIDERY BASICS
  
  
• MATERIALS PROVIDED: beautiful silks and velvets, threads and ribbons
  
  
• FOOD/WEATHER:

  We will do vegetarian meals or if we do meat it will be something like chicken burritos so you can avoid the meat if you want. There will be facilities for some stovetop cooking (tea and snacks) at the other house (we call it sunset house).

  It is hard to predict weather during the summer -- it may be very hot and sunny but given the on again/off again fog, it could also be cloudy and cool. We are going to be prepared for anything!

• TRANSPORTATION:

  We will be arranging transportation from San Francisco for those that may be flying in. If you are in the state and have a car, driving out would be ideal -- if you have transportation issues let us know and we will work something out.

• REGISTRATION:

  We are limiting the number of people to eight but we will do it for as few as four. The workshop will officially begin Friday night with dinner though you are welcome any time after noon on Friday . It will run until after lunch on Sunday. The total cost inclusive of meals and materials is $175 - $200, based on a sliding scale (you decide how much you can spend based on your income).
